US Open 2019 starts today

The US Open, the season's fourth and final major, starts today at Flushing Meadows in New York. Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Naomi Osaka of Japan are the defending champions.

Top seed and defending champion Novak Djokovic will be out to retain his title and claim the 17th Grand Slam of a glittering career. He will face competition from former champions Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, while Russia's Daniil Medvedev is one to watch after beating Djokovic at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.

The women's draw looks wide-open and is packed full of serious contenders. Six-time winner Serena Williams is the favourite just ahead of 2019 Wimbledon champion Simona Halep.

Both the Men's Championship and Women's Championship start at 9pm (BST) when Johanna Konta from England take on Daria Kasatkina fort he womens' and Brazillian born Thiago Monteiro takes on Bradley Klahn for the mens'.
