Perfect Svitolina wins WTA Finals

An unwavering Elina Svitolina claimed the biggest title of her career with a gritty comeback victory against Sloane Stephens at the season-ending WTA Finals in Singapore.

The Ukrainian once again dug deep to triumph 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in two hours and 23 minutes on Sunday. She is the first player to go through the WTA Finals undefeated since Serena Williams in 2013.

"It's a very special moment for me, I played great tennis this week," Svitolina said after the match. "This is going to bring a lot of confidence, as I have finished the season on a high note."

The focus will be on opener Nazmul Hossain Shanto and all-rounder Ariful Haque when the three-day warm-up match between BCB XI and visitors Zimbabwe starts today at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

Neither Ariful nor Nazmul had a chance to shine in the ODI series but can push the team think-tank with good performances in the three-day game.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe will try to regain their confidence before flying to Sylhet on November 1 following the 3-0 defeat in the ODI series.              

Man Utd, Chelsea win; Arsenal's winning run ends at 11

Manchester United eased the pressure on Jose Mourinho by seeing off Everton 2-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday, as Chelsea leapfrogged Manchester City into second with a 4-0 thrashing of Burnley.

Arsenal's 11-game winning run was finally ended, though, as two Luka Milivojevic penalties earned Crystal Palace a much-needed point in a 2-2 draw at Selhurst Park.

Paul Pogba scored from the rebound after his penalty was saved and assisted the second for Martial. Everton pulled one back late on from the spot but failed to find an equaliser.

Chelsea enjoyed a more comfortable afternoon to close to within two points of Liverpool at the top of the table with goals from Alvaro Morata, Ross Barkley, Willian and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.        

Federer claims 99th ATP title with Basel triumph

Roger Federer battled to claim his 99th career ATP Tour title on Sunday, rallying to defeat Romanian qualifier Marius Copil 7-6 (7/5), 6-4 in the Swiss Indoors final at Basel.

He will be aiming to complete his century at the ATP Finals in London, which starts in a fortnight's time, but has yet to announce if he will travel to Paris for next week's final Masters event of the season, where he last played in 2015.
