Petra Kvitova will play the French Open in what will be her first tournament since being attacked by a knife-wielding burglar in December, the WTA said Friday.

"Confirmed: Petra Kvitova will play @rolandgarros. Looking forward to hearing from her in an hour at her press conference," tweeted the WTA Insider.

Two-time Wimbledon champion Kvitova, 27, a semi-finalist at Roland Garros in 2012, suffered career-threatening injuries to her left hand as she fought off an intruder at her home in the eastern Czech town of Prostejov in December.

On Friday, she was included in the first round draw as the 15th seed where she will face Julia Boserup of the United States.
