Tamim denies reports of ‘hate crime’

Bangladesh’s cricketer Tamim Iqbal, who is returning to Dhaka from UK cutting short his stint with county side Essex Eagles, denied reports of an alleged 'hate crime' against his family.

In his official Facebook page and Twitter today, he denied the alleged hate crime incident and cited personal reasons for leaving Essex.

He wrote: “I want all my fans and well wishers to know that I cut short my season with Essex to come back home early for personal reasons. Some media reported that we were the target of attempted hate crime. This is really not true. England is one of my favourite places to play cricket and Essex have been entirely gracious even though I had to leave early. I thank all my fans and well wishers for their concern and messages and look forward to going back to England for future matches.“

However, BCB sources have reconfirmed to The Daily Star that an alleged incident of hate crime did take place.

For now, Tamim has moved to deny such claims through his facebook and twitter posts.

Tamim had reached Essex on Saturday and played just one of the eight games he was supposed to play. It has been learnt that the left-hander left England last night and is expected to reach Dhaka in the evening today.

Earlier yesterday, Essex had released a statement on their website announcing that Tamim would cut his stint short due to 'personal reasons'.

Former county cricketer and now commentator Alan Wilkins replied to Tamim's tweet. He thanked Tamim for clarifying the situation and hoped that all issues will be resolved.
