Taijul takes seven as Pakistan bowled out for 286

Taijul Islam took seven wickets for 116 runs in 44.4 overs as Pakistan were bowled out for 286 in their first innings at tea on the third day of the Chattogram Test against Bangladesh on Sunday.

The left-arm spinner, who made two breakthroughs in the first over of the day when Pakistan started 145 for no loss, went on to scalp five more scalps as the hosts took a first-innings lead of 44 runs.

Pacer Ebadot Hossain took two wickets while off-spinner Mehedi Hasan took one.

Abdullah Shafique (52) was the first to go before Azhar Ali (0) followed him the next ball off Taijul as the hosts started Day 3 on a positive not.

Abid Ali held one end up as Mehedi Hasan (one wicket) and Ebadot Hossain (two wickets) made further inroads before and after lunch. But Taijul, who is now the highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in Tests against Pakistan with 19, kept on chipping away with wickets. Taijul also removed the centurion Abid for 133, adjudged lef-before.

Ebadot, too, was particularly impressive with his pace and accuracy, often hitting 145k mark. 

At one stage it looked as if Pakistan would concede a big first-innings lead long before tea, but Faheem Ashraf and Shaheen Shah Afridi ate away at the deficit with a dogged partnership. The last pair added 29 runs in quick time, with Ashraf the last man out for a well-made 38 before Taijul had him with one going down the leg-side, Ashraf's faint edge sticking between the pads of wicketkeeper Liton Das.
