The most anticipated match of the 2023 World Cup will begin today when hosts India take on archrivals Pakistan at the 132,000-capacity Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the largest cricket stadium in the world.

The match is set to begin at 2:30pm Bangladesh time. Before the match begins, let's take a look at some of the interesting facts regarding the greatest cricketing rivalry of all time.

  • Pakistan are yet to beat India in the ODI World Cup. India have won all seven of their matches against Pakistan in the mega event so far.
  • Rohit Sharma's 113-ball 140 in India's 89-run win (DLS) in the 2019 World Cup is the highest individual score in India-Pakistan contests in ODI World Cups.
  • India skipper Rohit Sharma is just three sixes away from reaching the milestone of 300 sixes in ODIs. With 297 maximums in 253 matches, Rohit sits third on the list for most ODI sixes behind Shahid Afridi (351 sixes in 391 ODIs) and Chris Gayle (331 sixes in 301 ODIs).
  • Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali requires three more wickets to get to 100 ODI wickets. Since his debut in 2016, no one has taken more wickets than Hasan for Pakistan in ODIs.
  • Virat Kohli needs 51 more runs to surpass Mahela Jayawardene and become the fourth-highest run-getter in international cricket.
  • Shubman Gill needs 83 more runs to become the fastest to 2000 runs in ODIs. Gill has scored 1917 runs in 35 innings and could overtake Hashim Amla, who holds the record in this regard as he reached 2000 ODI runs in 40 innings.
  • Despite not having a traditional opening ceremony for this World Cup, BCCI will organise an extravagant musical ceremony before the India-Pakistan match today. The musical ceremony will include performances from several lead singers and musicians from Bollywood like Arijit Singh, Shankar Mahadevan, and Sukhwinder Singh among others.
