No broadcasters for Windies series but BCB still hopeful

Even just a day before the first Test of the two-match series between Bangladesh and West Indies in Antigua, it remains uncertain whether the Tigers' fans would be able to watch the matches live on TV.

The concerns intensified as no TV channel has officially acquired the broadcast rights of the series in which Bangladesh are set to play two Tests -- part of the ICC Test Championship -- three T20Is and three ODIs in the Caribbean.

According to the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) chairman of the media committee Tanvir Ahmed Titu, the board could only hope that one of the two local TV channels -- T Sports or Gazi TV -- agree to telecast the games.

"To be honest, we are hoping that somehow we will be able to watch the games live on TV. As I previously said, we have hardly anything to do officially since the broadcasting depends on the initiatives taken by the host board. We are still hoping if things change at the last moment and if that happens, it won't be an issue to watch the games on TV," Titu told the media today.

The BCB director stated that there is hardly anything to do from the board's perspective as everything will depend on the management of the respective TV channels.

"It actually depends on the TV channels and those who are involved in the management. I can't comment on this. What I know is given the enthusiasm and the love towards cricket from the Bangladeshi supporters, it won't be an issue to find a sponsor," he said.

Interestingly, the last time the Bangladeshi viewers were unable to catch the Tigers live due to the lack of interest from sponsors was back in 2003 when Bangladesh played a two-match Test series in Australia.
