Inconsistency the story of Bangladesh’s Test cricket at the moment: Domingo

Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo said that inconsistency with the ball in hand has been the main reason behind the Tigers surrendering control of their game on the second day of their series-deciding Test against West Indies at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Saint Lucia on Sunday.

"It's the story of our Test match cricket at the moment. We are good for one session and then we have one really bad session," said an apparently dispirited Domingo at the end of the day's play today.

The Tigers roared back into the contest when Mehedi Hasan Miraz removed fifty-up Kraigg Brathwaite and Khaled Ahmed followed it up by striking twice in the very next over to leave the hosts at a precarious 132 for four just minutes before Lunch.

However, somehow, the Tigers managed to totally relinquish control from there on as the Windies piled up 340 for five with a lead of 106 runs at Stumps. According to Domingo, it was their desperation to get wickets that saw the Tigers lose control of the game.  

 "I think the guys are being impatient. They are not being able to string together enough tight overs in succession and create pressure consistently as we did in the first session. We were able to bowl fantastically in the first session but were not able to sustain it. 

"We just went searching for wickets and bowled a few soft balls. We made basic mistakes like we came around the wicket when we should have been over the wicket. We were not patient enough," explained Domingo. 

Bangladesh leaked many boundaries throughout the day, especially in the second and the final session of the day. When Bangladesh should have been tightening the noose on the Windies who were four down and already feeling the pressure after lunch, Bangladesh went on to concede a total of 111 runs in the 30 overs of the afternoon session.  

Asked what was the message from the dressing room for the bowlers, Domingo said it was to keep creating pressure on the batters which the Tigers failed to do. 

"The message was always to bowl dots and build pressure and stay in control of the run rate. As soon as we went looking for wickets [desperately], we just bowled too many soft balls. Being patient, being disciplined are the sort of message we keep trying to emphasise on the team but at the moment we are not being able to do those for a long enough period of time. We are doing it for one session and then unable to do it the next session," Domingo added.
