Rio Olympics

Shamoli gets wildcard entry

Archer Shamoli Roy has been awarded a wildcard entry in the 2016 Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from August, an official confirmed yesterday.

Earlier, shooter Abdullah Hel Baki was awarded a wildcard entry as well.

“We had asked for two wildcards for the Rio Olympics, but the International Olympic Committee, International Archery Federation and Games Organising Committee provided us with just one for Shamoli,” said Bangladesh Archery Federation general secretary Kazi Razib Uddin Ahmed Chapal.

Chapal informed that the performance of Shamoli in last year's World Championship in Copenhagen was considered before selecting her. Shamoli, along with three male teammates -- Emdadul Haque Milon, Ruman Sana and Tamimul Islam -- has been preparing at the Ahsanullah Master Stadium in Tongi.
