Indian Cricket Board President and former skipper Sourav Ganguly was discharged from a corporate hospital in Kolkata today, three days after he underwent a fresh angioplasty to clear two of his blocked coronary arteries, hospital officials said.

Ganguly (48) was admitted to Apollo Gleneagles Hospital on Wednesday for the second time in a month due to his cardiac condition.

On Thursday, two more stents were implanted during the surgery conducted by a team of doctors, including noted cardiologist Devi Shetty and Ashwin Mehta who were flown in from Bengaluru and Mumbai to oversee the procedure.

"Mr Ganguly is doing fine and his heart is as strong as a normal person. He had an uneventful recovery and we are hopeful that within the next couple of days, he will be able to return to normal life," a senior doctor of the hospital said.

The former India captain is required to follow a strict routine and needs to be on medication for a few months, he added.

He had suffered a mild heart attack earlier this month and was diagnosed with triple vessel disease, which means three of his arteries had substantial blockages.

He had undergone an angioplasty at Woodlands Hospital in the first week of January when a stent was inserted into one of the blocked arteries.

Ganguly was attended on by leading cardiologists Aftab Khan, Saptarshi Basu and Saroj Mandol of Kolkata.
