Shakil flops in Munich

Commonwealth Games silver medallist Shakil Ahmed frustrated in the ISSF World Cup, finishing 109th among 162 shooters in 10m air pistol event in Munich yesterday.

Shakil, also a SA Games gold medallist, scored only 565 points, 17 points less than the eighth qualifier for the final round. Two Indian shooters -- Saurabh Chaudhary and Rizvi Shahzar -- made it into the final round from where two shooters will get tickets for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Prior to departure for Germany, Shakil had said that he would try to transfer his training performance into the competition by scoring 575 to 580 points, but he was way off the mark yesterday.
