Mahfuz also steals gold

Following the success of Zahir Rayhan, high-jumper Mahfuzur Rahman bagged gold medal in India’s 35th National Junior Athletics Championship in Gunter, Andhra Pradesh on the third day of the meet yesterday.

Mahfuzur, who represents Bangladesh Navy in domestic circuit, cleared 2.10 metres to win the gold, beating his Indian counterparts.

The lad from Kushtia had set a new national record in last Summer Athletics Championships clearing 2.15 metres. Before setting the record, he won five more gold medal in domestic championships in Bangladesh.

Five Bangladeshi athletes are taking part in the Indian meet after an invitation from the Athletics Federation of India.
