Jabbarer Boli Khela cancelled

The century-old Jabbarer Boli Khela, a traditional wrestling competition of Chattogram, has been cancelled for the first time due to the coronavirus pandemic, organisers said in a statement on Sunday.

The 111th edition of the competition and three days of Boishakhi Fair in the Laldighi Maidan area of the port city, which were scheduled to be held from April 25, have been cancelled, the statement said.

The organisational secretary of the wrestling competition and the fair, Mohammad Jamal Hossain, said in the statement, "Due to the worldwide outbreak of coronavirus, the country is in a difficult situation. The Prime Minister has cancelled all events in the country including Boishakhi celebrations. In these disastrous times, the fair committee has taken the decision to cancel the Bolikhela, scheduled for April 25, and the fair."
