Four sixes, 70 fours light up lower tier

Lower-tier cricket matches make headlines for all the wrong reasons. From biased umpiring and favouritism to the buying and selling of points, these instances occur more often than not.

However, yesterday’s Dhaka Second Division Cricket League encounter between the North Bengal Cricket Academy and Talent Hunt Cricket Academy at the City Club Ground in Dhaka drew attention for some outrageous performances on the field.

A total of 818 runs were scored it total during the 50-over match, which North Bengal won by 46 runs. The tie also saw a total of 44 sixes and 70 boundaries hit.

North Bengal posted a mammoth 432 for four in 50 overs. Opener Shawon Islam smashed a 33-ball 92 while his partner, Mahafil Islam, smashed a 117-ball 116.

In a game that could be considered a bowlers’ nightmare, Talent Hunt scored 386 for seven in reply.
