Former shooter Asif willing to auction his gold medal

Former national shooter Asif Hossain Khan, who won gold medal at 2002 Commonwealth Games in 10m Air Rifle individual event, expressed his willingness to auction that medal in order to raise fund for battling coronavirus crisis.

"Yes, I want to auction that medal. I do not have much else with which I can contribute. If I can raise some funds by auctioning it then I will be able to help the needy ones during such a period of crisis. I think this is a good thing to do and I too will be feeling very good about it," informed Asif to The Daily Star today.

Asif became the first and only shooter from Bangladesh to secure a gold medal in an individual 10m Air Rifle event in the Commonwealth Games when he achieved the feat in the 17th edition of  the tournament in Manchester, England. Asif mentioned that he is not bothered giving away the gold medal, which remains as his best achievement till date, as he always did everything for his country.

"I always did everything for my country. I declined corporate offers and now working as a coach at BKSP. My only aim is if I can bring out a few good shooters for the country. I will not say that I am not totally feeling bad or sad about giving up the medal but If I can help a few people with it then I think it is worth it," concluded Asif.
