Bangladesh in mixed final of Archery World Cup

Bangladesh moved into the final of the Recurve mixed event of Archery World Cup after beating Canada 5-3 in the semifinal in Lausanne, Switzerland today.

Following disappointments in individual events, Bangladesh mixed team comprising Ruman Sana and Diya Siddique pulled out one after another surprising results in the biggest stage for the first time. 17th-ranked Bangladesh first beat 16th-ranked Iran 5-3 before upsetting top-ranked Germany 5-1 in pre-quarterfinal.

Afterwards, the Ruman-Diya pair had to sweat it out to beat ninth-ranked Spain after drawing 4-4 set points before moving into the semifinal with a tiebreaker where Ruman and Diya collectively scored 19 against Spaniards' 12.  

In the last four battle, Bangladesh beat 12nd-ranked Canada 5-3 to reach the final in which they will play against second-ranked Netherlands on May 23.

Bangladeshi archers previously reached the finals to win gold medals in smaller stages such as Asian Grand Prix and South Asian Games but they never played any finals in big stages suck as Archery World Cup, Archery World Championships or Archery Asian Championship though Ruman Sana once played the semifinals of World Archery Championships in Netherlands.
