Bangladesh Games in April-May next year?

The Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) is planning to host the Bangladesh Games, the largest sporting extravaganza in the country, after March next year as part of year-long celebrations of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The BOA secretary general Syed Shahed Reza disclosed the information to reporters following the second Annual General Meeting of the apex sports body of the country at the Kurmitola Golf Club yesterday.

“We are planning to host the Bangladesh Games after the birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in March. The time of the event could be in April or May, which we will decide later after further discussion,” Reza said.

The eighth and last edition of the Bangladesh Games, usually a quadrennial event, was held in 2013. The 2017 edition of the Bangladesh Games was replaced by the Bangladesh Youth Games, which was held last year.

The BOA secretary general further informed that they might send selective athletes for training abroad ahead of this December’s South Asian Games. The Bangladesh Archery Federation and Bangladesh Weightlifting Federation may get two coaches from China ahead of the games, he also informed.

The AGM was chaired by the BOA president and Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed.
