Krasenkow wins Sheikh Russel chess tourney

Polish grandmaster Michal Krasenkow became champion in Sheikh Russel International Grandmasters Chess Tournament after defeating overnight-leader GM Vugar Rasulov of Azerbaijan in the ninth and final round at the Dilkusha Hall of Hotel Purbani International today.
 
Krasenkow ended with seven points from nine matches in which he won six, drew two and lost one match to Iranian GM Masoud Mosadeghpour.
 
Ukrainian GM Vitaliy Bernadskiy became runner-up with 6.5 points despite five more players – Indian GM Narayanan Srinath (3rd), Indian IM Guha Mitrabha (4th), Indian GM Sundar Shyam (5th), Iranian IM Seyed Mousavi Khalil (6th) and GM Vugar Rasulov of Azerbaijan (7th) – earning 6.5 points as well. The standing was decided after a tiebreaker among the six players.
 
Iranian GM Masood, Azerbaijani GM Vugar Asadli and Indian IM Koustav finished eighth, ninth and tenth, respectively, as a total of 13 players including Bangladeshi GM Niaz Murshed earned an equal six points each and the standing was also decided through a tiebreaker.
 
Niaz was the top among the Bangladeshi players as the sub-continent's first grandmaster ended up at the 18th place with six points while GM Enamul Hossain became second among the local players and finished 28th with five points. GM Ziaur Rahman and CM Chanchal Kumar also earned five points each to finish 42nd and 46th, respectively.     
 
IM Fahad Rahman, FM Mehedi Hasan Parag, FM Sheikh Nasir Ahmed, IM Abu Sufian Shakil, CM Nayem Haque and Anata Chowdhury -- all earned 4.5 points  to finish 48th, 54th, 56th, 58th, 59th and 60th, respectively, among 102 players.
