Junior shuttlers narrowly miss out on international gold

Bangladesh had to be satisfied with a silver medal in under-17 category of Badminton Asia -- South Asia Regional Junior Championship with a 3-2 matches defeat against Sri Lanka in the mixed final in Kathmandu, Nepal today.

Sifat Ullah beat his Sri Lankan counterpart 21-9, 13-21, 21-16 in boys' singles before Sri Lanka bounced back with a 21-2, 21-4 win over Bangladesh's Sinthia Khanom in girls' singles. Bangladesh boys' team, comprising Sifta and Rajon Mia, then regained the lead beating Sri Lanka 21-13, 21-14 in boys' doubles.

However, Bangladeshi pair of Sinthia and Mathena Madhurjyo gave walkover [due to injury] to their Sri Lankan counterparts. Bangladesh mixed doubles team, featuring Sifat Ullah and Sinthia, went down 21-11, 23-25, 21-10 to their Sri Lankan counterparts to lose the gold medal.

In the under-15 category, Bangladesh won bronze medal along with Bhutan in the mixed team event.
