BGF rewards medal-winning gymnasts

Bangladesh Gymnastics Federation (BGF) rewarded medal winners of the Bangabandhu 5th Central South Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships during a reception ceremony held at the National Sports Council (NSC) conference room today.

Razib Chakma, who bagged silver and bronze medals in floor exercise and vaulting events respectively last November, received Tk 1.60 lakh while Banoful Chakma, who won bronze medal in women's vaulting event, got Tk 60,000. Bangladesh team comprising Abu Sayeed Rafi, Razib Chakma, Sajid Haque and Prenthoi Mro received Tk 1 lakh for winning bronze medals in the men's team event.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel handed over the cash awards to the gymnasts and the coaching staff as the chief guest while Youth and Sports secretary Meshbah Uddin was present as special guest.

BGF president and Bangladesh Olympic Association vice president Shaikh Bashar Ahmed presided over the programme and promised to hold such tournaments more in future.

"Some talented gymnasts came out through Bangabandhu 5th Central and South Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships and I hope these gymnasts can win some medals in the upcoming South Asian Games where the gymnastics disciplines is being considered to be included," said Bashir. "Our gymnasts are doing well at the international level and if they can keep participating in international tournaments, we hope the gymnasts will be able to make our country proud by winning more medals."

Later Shaikh Bashir Ahmed also helped four players of the Bangladesh U-15 table tennis team by giving tk 50,000 to each of the players.
