Bangladesh's bid to move into the semifinals of Men's Junior Asia Cup hockey got off to a fine start as the boys in red and green secured a 2-0 victory over hosts Oman in their Pool B encounter in Salalah, Oman on Tuesday night.

The charges of Mamunur Rashid faced stiff challenge against a well-prepared Oman in the first quarter before they were finally able to break the hosts' resistance and scored twice within a couple of minutes.

Mohammad Tasin Ali gave Bangladesh a lead in the 22nd minute from open play while Mohammad Jahid Hossain doubled the lead a couple of minutes later.

After resumption, neither Bangladesh nor Oman could produce any goals in the third and fourth quarter and Bangladesh had to stay satisfied with a two-goal margin.

Meanwhile, tournament favourites Malaysia thrashed Uzbekistan 8-1 in the opening match of Pool B.
