Imranur, Ritu on top as Army dominate national athletics

Imranur Rahman and Sumaiya Dewan won the 200m sprint titles as the Bangabandhu 46th National Athletics Championship came to an end at the Bangladesh Army Stadium on Sunday.

Imranur of Bangladesh Army, the winner in the 100m, took 21.41 seconds to win the 200m dash. Sumaiya of the same team won the women's 200m dash at 25.30 seconds (hand timing).

Two new records were set on the concluding day, with Papiya Akter and Soniya Akter of Bangladesh Army winning women's 10000m and women's triple jump with records. 

Imranur and Ritu Akter of Bangladesh Army were adjudged the best male and female athlete, respectively, of the championship.

Army finished top of the medals table with 21 gold, 14 silver and 16 bronze medals. Bangladesh Navy, with 16 gold, 23 silver and 12 bronze medals, stood second while Bangladesh Ansar and VDP finished a distant third.
