Hockey team climbs to 30th

Bangladesh climbed four places up to 30th in the world rankings following their sixth-place finish in the recently concluded Asia Cup, in the new rankings published by the International Hockey Federation (FIH).

Bangladesh started the Asia Cup campaign in 34th position with 278 points, but the lone victory over higher-ranked China helped them earn 20 points.

Argentina and Australia remained in the top two places.

Coach Mahbub Harun was happy to see the progress, but wanted more activities from the federation.

“After the 2013 Hockey World League Round-2, we had moved up to 29th position. To keep this new position, we need to participate in international tournaments with good preparation and it all depends on how the federation organises things,” said the coach.
