Professional golf set for a return

Professional golf is gearing to return to Bangladesh following an 11-month break as the Army Golf Club in Dhaka is set to host 5th Paragon Professional Golf Tournament from February 16 to 18.

The three-day event, to be hosted by the Bangladesh Professional Golfers' Association, will be the first golfing event in the country since March 2020 when the golf clubs were closed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The last tournament to take place was the Hosaf Professional Golf Tournament, ending on March 19, 2020. Mohammad Muaj of Savar Golf Club had won the event.

The 54-hole 5th Paragon Professional Tournament event will feature the top professional golfers of the country and will offer a prize purse of 15 lakh taka.

Siddikur Rahman, the country's top golfer, will be playing in this event alongside the other top golfers of the country. Siddikur's last participation at a professional event was in March last year in an Asian Tour event in Malaysia.

While some of his peers such as Jamal Mollah, Mohammad Sayum and a couple of others have played in India recently, Siddikur skipped those events overseas. Understandably the ace golfer is happy that game is making a comeback finally in Bangladesh.

"I'm excited that golfing events are starting again in the country. I'm looking forward to this event," the two-time Asian Tour winner told media.
