Sporting world unites to pay tribute to Barcelona victims

The world of sport united to show solidarity with the victims of the Barcelona attack and condemned the incident.

According to AFP, 13 people were dead and more than 100 injured in a shocking attack at the famous boulevard of Las Ramblas.

FC Barcelona and RCD Espanyol, who are both clubs from the region showed their support for the victims of this heinous crime.

Barcelona published a tweet reading: "Deeply saddened by the attack on our city. All our thoughts are with the victims, their families and with the people of Barcelona."


FC Barcelona also released a statement expressing profound sadness but also 'utter disgust at the terrorist attack that has hit the heart of our city'.

Espanyol tweeted: “The most beautiful city in the world, our city. We suffer for you and with all Barcelonians. Strength and support, Barcelona."

English clubs Manchester City and Manchester United also paid their tributes to the victims.

Manchester City tweeted:: "All at MCFC are saddened to hear of the attack in the City of Barcelona. Our thoughts are with all affected and the emergency services."


Manchester United posted via twitter: "Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the tragic events in Barcelona."

Both Manchester clubs came together during the attack on an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester on May this year to provide emergency services to victims.


World's top-ranked Tennis star Rafael Nadal was shaken and saddened by the attack. "Shattered by what has happened in Barcelona! All my support for the families affected and the city," Nadal tweeted.

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo wrote on his twitter: "I'm dismayed by the news coming from Barcelona, all my support and solidarity is with the families and friends of the victims."

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos posted a emoticon of a broken heart and tweeted: "Barcelona. No to terrorism. No to the dictatorship of fear # StopTerrorism."

 

FC Barcelona players also took to twitter to convey their feelings.

Gerard Pique said: “More than ever all together against this attack in our city. All my support to those affected by this barbarism. #Barcelona.”

Luis Suarez said that he was shocked by what happened and showed his support with the image of a black ribbon in solidiarity.

Neymar, who is currently in Paris after leaving Barcelona this season condemned the attack and wrote on his Twitter: "May God comfort all families #PrayForBarcelona I love you BARCELONA."

Barcelona's legendary playmaker Lionel Messi called for a show of strength, support and solidiarity with the victims . His message was very clear and meaningful, calling for an end to violence and effusing strength with his words. "We are not giving up" said Leo Messi.

"I want to send my condolences and all my support to the families and friends of the victims of the terrible attack on our beloved Barcelona, ​​in addition to totally rejecting any act of violence.

We are not going to give up, we are many more who want to live in a world in peace, without hate and where respect and tolerance are the basis of coexistence."
