U-19s crumble to spin duo

Bangladesh Under-19 were caught in the spin web of Ashian Daniel and Rohan Sanjaya as Sri Lanka Under-19s dominated the second day of the second youth Test at Katunayake yesterday.

Tanzid Hasan and Sajid Hossain gave Bangladesh a bright start in reply to the hosts' first-innings total of 226 as the opening duo added 77 runs. The departure of Sajid, who made 22 off 37, triggered a collapse as the visitors were bundled out for 109 runs in 36 overs.

Wickets fell like ninepins as number eight batsman Rakibul Hasan was only the third to reach double digits during his unbeaten 15. Tanzid hit 50 off 55 balls, which contained four boundaries.

Off-spinner Daniel and left-arm spinner Sanjaya returned with five-fors each to demolish the Bangladesh innings and ensure a 219-run overall lead at stumps after the home side reached 102 for three in their second innings.

Rakibul took two wickets for 42 runs.
