Bangladesh moved into the final round of the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship as runners-up of Group B in the second round of qualifiers after suffering a 3-0 defeat against China in their last match at the Mandalathiri Stadium in Myanmar today.

Golam Rabbani Chhoton’s charges, who had already sealed qualification following a 10-0 win over Philippines and a 1-0 win over Myanmar, trailed the first half by a solitary goal before conceding two more after the break.

Dao Xinyao opened the scoring in the 29th minute before Shao Ziqin made it 2-0 a minute after restart. Wang Xinling wrapped up the victory for the Chinese girls in the 53rd minute.

As China are way superior to Bangladesh in women’s football, the Bangladesh team’s target against China was to gauge the improvement they made over the last two years.

Bangladesh will play the final round of the competition in September in Thailand alongside hosts Thailand, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, China and two other teams which are yet to be decided.
