Suspension for match-fixers, says Salahuddin

Bangladesh Football Federation president Kazi Salahuddin has said any person or team proved to be involved with match-fixing in domestic leagues will be suspended.

The BFF president's comments comes after the game's local governing body served explanations to Arambagh KS and Brothers Union, two Bangladesh Premier League clubs, over suspicious of betting and fixing activities.

BFF sent explanation letters to these two clubs earlier this month after being tipped off by the Asian Football Confederation about suspicious betting activities involving five matches.

Although legal in many countries, betting is completely illegal in Bangladesh.

"Our position is very clear. We won't tolerate three things: racism, fixing and drugs. Any involvement with these things will amount to suspension," Salahuddin told reporters following a visit to the Kamalapur Stadium regarding BFF U1-5 talent-hunt programme on Tuesday morning.

Bangladesh national team's head coach Jamie Day, who was present at the event, said it would be unfortunate if match-fixing really took place in our league.

"It would be very unfortunate if this took place in our country," the coach said.

Although the issue of match-fixing has not been proved yet, according to media reports there is credible information that spot-fixing and online betting took place involving five matches of those two clubs.
