No Ronaldo in Champions League Squad of the season

Juventus star forward Cristiano Ronaldo was left out of the 23-member UEFA Champions League squad of the season announced by UEFA on Friday.

Chosen by UEFA's team of Technical Observers, the squad however includes Barcelona star forward Lionel Messi, Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar and Kylian Mbappe along with nine players from champions Bayern Munich -- most from any clubs this season.

Three players each from semifinalists RB Leipzig and runner-up PSG have made it into the list. However, no player from Real Madrid -- record 13-time winner of the competition -- made the list.

Ronaldo's brace could not rescue Juventus' Champions League campaign as they crashed out to Olympique Lyon on away goals at the last-16 stage, despite a 2-1 win in Turin. The second goal of Ronaldo against Lyon, a left-footed screamer from a long-range, was however voted fans' goal of the tournament but it did not feature in the top ten goals of the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League chosen by UEFA's team of Technical Observers.

Ronaldo's exclusion from the 23-member squad could be justified as the tournament's all-time top goalscorer had a bleak Champions League campaign -- scoring only four in his eight matches for Juventus.
