MSC end losing streak,NoFel hammered at home

A stoppage time penalty helped the struggling Mohammedan SC break their losing streak in the Bangladesh Premier League with a 1-1 draw against Muktijoddha Sangsad at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj yesterday.

Mohammedan, who came into the match on the back of three consecutive defeats against Bashundhara Kings, NoFel SC and holders Abahani, were on the verge of their eight overall defeat in 11 matches before Nigerian marksman Kingsley Chigozie canceled out Ballo Famoussa's 68-minute strike by scoring a penalty in the third minute of extra time.

It was Mohammedan's overall third draw in 11 outings to stay in the 11th position with only six points.

Meanwhile, despite missing out on securing their overall fifth victory, Muktijoddha Sangsad maintained remained at sixth position with 15 points from 11 matches.

At the Shaheed Bulu Stadium in Noakhali, hosts NoFel SC suffered a 0-3 humbling at the hands of Chittagong Abahani. With their first win in the last six matches, Chittagong Abahani are closing in on Muktijoddha Sangsad with 14 points from 11 while NoFel SC are in eighth position with ten points from 11 matches.

NoFel SC came into the match with a 1-0 home win over Mohammedan but Chittagong Abahani proved to be a tougher nut to crack. The port city side went ahead in the third minute when Nigerian defender Elita Benjamin headed into his own net while attempting to clear a free-kick from inside the box.

The visitors then doubled the margin in the 24th minute when Nigerian Magalan Awala availed a long ball and danced past a defender and the goalkeeper to fire home from inside the box. Awala wrapped up the victory three minutes into stoppage time by capitalising on a fumble by a NoFel SC defender.
