Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) today officially announced Javier Cabrera as the new head coach of the national team.

The 37-year-old has been appointed to the position for a one-year term, ending in Decmber 2022.

At a press briefing following a meeting, National Teams Committee chairman Kazi Nabil Ahmed said, "Spaniard Javier Cabrera has been appointed as our new national team coach for 11 months, ending in December 2022. We are expecting him to be here by 15th of this month."

The BFF vice-president said that the Spaniard's experience in regional football and information regarding Bangladesh football will help him do well in this job.

Cabrera has never managed a national team or a club team as a head coach as yet.

His first assignment would be guiding Bangladesh in two FIFA friendly matches against Indonesia in Bali on January 24 and 27.

Cabrera's appointment comes as Jamie Day, the former coach, was sent on leave in September last year. The game's local governing body then gave charge to Oscar Bruzon of Bashundhara Kings and Mario Lemos of Abahani as interim coaches for two separate tournaments.
