Harvey Elliott 'stunned' Real Madrid officials when he snubbed the opportunity to meet Sergio Ramos because he didn't like him after his clash with Mohamed Salah in the 2018 Champions League final.

The Athletic claims that Liverpool – who eventually signed the former Fulham youngster last summer – were not the only club interested in the 17-year-old.

Real Madrid pulled out all the stops in an attempt to lure Elliott to Spain in the summer of 2019 when the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Chelsea were also vying for his signature.

Liverpool fans accused Ramos of deliberately taking out Salah, which the centre-back has always denied, and Elliott was still harbouring a grudge when he toured the Bernabeu and their training complex a year later.

Real officials asked Elliott if he would like to meet Ramos, the club captain, but the teenager replied: 'No, it's OK, thanks. I don't like him after what he did to Mo Salah.'

Elliott, a lifelong Liverpool fan, was inside the NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kiev in May 2018 when Liverpool were downed 3-1 by Madrid.

Reds goalkeeper Loris Karius – who later complained of concussion – was largely at fault after his two errors allowed Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale to score.

However, Liverpool's chances took a blow midway through the first half when Salah was challenged by Ramos, a tackle which handed the Egyptian a shoulder injury and forced him to miss part of his country's World Cup campaign.

Egyptian press had reacted angrily to the incident, accusing Ramos of being "a butcher," whilst "Egypt cried."
