Double header today as BPL resumes

The Bangladesh Premier League is set to resume today at the Bangabandhu National Stadium with a double header following a three-week break. The country’s top-tier football league had gone on hiatus to help facilitate the national team’s training ahead of their international engagement with Laos.

Second-placed Abahani will take on ninth-placed Rahmatganj MFS while sixth-placed Sheikh Jamal DC will face off against bottom-placed Team BJMC in the day’s second match.

Abahani will look to resume their campaign right from where they left off when they face the Old Dhaka outfit as the Sky Blues wrapped up their 15th match, against Muktijoddha Sangsad, with a massive 4-1 win.

It should be mentioned that the charges of Mario Lemos previously beat Rahmatganj comprehensively in a first-leg meeting which ended 5-1 at the same venue. However, this time around Abahani will miss the services of some key players like Tapu Barman and Atiqur Rahman Fahad due to injuries.

The second match of the day, between Sheikh Jamal and BJMC, is expected to be a keenly contested encounter as the struggling BJMC held a superior side -- Chittagong Abahani -- to a 1-1 draw in their previous match at home. However, Sheikh Jamal have already beaten BJMC 2-1 in a first-leg meeting.
