BPL to resume on Tuesday

The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) decided to resume the Bangladesh Premier League once more on Tuesday, just two days before the end of strict lockdown.

"Following the suspension of the league due to Eid-ul-Adha and lockdown, we are going to resume the professional football league on August 3 and the matches of the league will be bodily shifted with Rahmatganj MFS playing against Brothers Union at BNS and Chattogram Abahani will play against Uttar Baridara Club at Kamalapur Stadium," BFF senior vice president and league committee chairman Abdus Salam Murshedy told the reporters at his business office in Panthapath today.

"We will follow all protocols of Covid-19 to hold the matches without spectators," Salam said. "We are also hoping to complete the league by this month (August) as we are getting one more stadium (Army Stadium) after August 5 to complete the league which has been prolonged due to the Covid-19 situation and the engagement of the national football team."

On Friday, the BFF suspended the league matches – Rahmatganj MFS vs Brothers Union and Ctg Abahani vs Uttar Baridhara Club – just two hours before the scheduled start of the matches after reportedly being instructed not to hold the football matches during country-wide strict lockdown.

Meanwhile, Bashundara Kings are scheduled to take part in AFC Cup in Maldives in the middle of this month but the league will be going on and the league leaders will play the remaining matches of the league after returning from Maldives.
