BFF CFO resigns

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), Abu Hossain, resigned from his post citing his sickness on June 5, more than one-and-half-month after BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag was suspended by Investigatory Chamber (IC) of the FIFA Ethics Committee over financial irregularities.

Abu -- who had been with the local game's governing body soon after Kazi Salahuddin became BFF president in 2008 -- also went to the FIFA headquarter in Zurich, Switzerland, along with Shohag to attend the hearing before IC. Abu's resignation comes at a time when BFF's further investigation is ongoing.

Apart from Abu, BFF manager (operations) Mizanur Rahman also resigned, citing personal reasons, last Thursday.

"Yes, they have resigned and they can resign, which is a normal procedure. The general secretary [BFF] has also announced the job openings to fill up those posts," said BFF president, Kazi Salahuddin, adding that they were trying to restructure the whole system which they needed to do.

Replying to a query, Salahuddin said, "We did not say anything [about the resignation] but he (Abu) knew that he will not be able to survive after the completion of the [further] inspection [by BFF after BFF disclosed the financial irregularities]," Salahuddin said. "Whatever they say, there was no doubt that there was a mistake in our [financial] system, so he [Abu] has to take the responsibility because the chairman of finance will not look at the files. Shohag had even taken the responsibility despite being fourth signatory."
