Bartomeu deactivates Twitter account after Juve match

Former Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu, who resigned from his post on Tuesday, deleted has Twitter account on Wednesday night following Barcelona's 2-0 win at Turin against Juventus.

"There has been a lack of respect for the board members and I," Bartomeu said in his goodbye press conference. He has received a deluge of insults and attacks on social media and for now, it appears, he thought it was better to step away from the platform.

According to SPORT, some players have not even responded to his WhatsApp messages.

Barcelona team had little problem with the whole board stepping down just the other day as they won against a lackluster Juventus on Wednesday night. Bartomeu's relationship with most of the senior players had soured during the last year and midfielder and make-shift fullback Sergi Roberto said they have already put the whole episode behind them.

Asked if the organizational issues could have derailed them against Juventus just a day after the board stepped down, Roberto said: "There is a lot of talk about which I suppose is to be expected. But what the fans want is for the team to win games and that is what we've been doing. We gave the best possible reply tonight."

Asked if there was a confrontation with Bartomeu, he sidestepped it by saying: "We've put all of that behind us now and we are focused on playing, trying to improve and winning our games."
