Abahani lose AFC Cup home advantage

Six-time Bangladesh Premier League champions Abahani's AFC Cup fixture has been moved away from Bangladesh due to the nationwide seven-day strict lockdown, starting from Wednesday.

Abahani were scheduled to host Eagles Club of Maldives in Preliminary Round 2 of the AFC Cup in Dhaka, but the lockdown has forced the Asian football body, AFC, to take it away to an overseas venue.

Abahani manager Satyajit Das Rupu confirmed this news to The Daily Star, after receiving a letter from the AFC on Saturday evening.

"We have been asked to arrange for a neutral venue within today. We are trying for that. If we can't find one, the match will be held on April 21 in Maldives," Rupu said.

It has been learnt that Abahani are looking towards Nepal and India as neutral venue options.
