A living-room celebration for the ages

It took 132 years for Leicester City -- 5000-1 outsiders before the season began -- to ascend to the top of English club football, and the moment they were waiting for took place when the players were inside a room and watching the television screen relaying events just under 100 miles away. 

Manager Claudio Ranieri, the man who drove the club's fairytale rise from 14th in the 2014/15 English Premier League table to the top of the tree  on May 3, 2016, was supposedly away to meet his mother. Rumours however have done the rounds that he was back before full-time of the match between Chelsea and Tottenham, who had to be held to a draw to ensure the Leicester City win the coveted title. 

Meanwhile, the Leicester City players were holed up in striker Jamie Vardy's house watching history unfold. For their fans' pleasure, left-back Christian Fuchs posted a video on twitter showing the reaction of his teammates as the full-time whistle announced a 2-2 draw in the derby, leading to pandemonium in the Vardy household.

Among the celebrations, Vardy found time to post a tweet, apparently a witty retort to an instagram post from Tottenham player Harry Kane, who incidentally scored a goal in the first half to delay put a flutter in the Foxes’ hearts. Around two weeks ago when Tottenham’s title chase was picking up steam, Kane posted a picture of a pride of lions advancing towards the camera. 

The implication perhaps was that Tottenham were going to hunt down Leicester City, who are known as the Foxes. Vardy’s reply showed his view of the state of affairs after their Premier League triumph. 

Leicester City will get their hands on the trophy, which they came closest to winning by finishing second in 1929, after their final home game of the season against Everton on Saturday.
