Ronaldo outdoes Messi in goal-scoring rate

Cristiano Ronaldo is finally recovering the form that saw him win the Ballon D’or the past two years as he begins to find his scoring form.

There were suggestions that the Portuguese was past his best as he scored just four goals in his first 14 La Liga outings. However, the Real Madrid forward had been at his best this term in the Champions League once again, notching up 11 goals in seven games. He also got his La Liga scoring form back as he struck seven goals in the last five games of the league. He scored from a tight angle against Real Betis last night to take his tally to 25 goals for the season from 29 games with a goal-scoring average of 0.86 goals per game. In comparison, Messi has a goal scoring average of 0.71 goals per match with 27 goals from 38 matches. Messi has only scored thrice in the Champions League this term from six matches, although the Argentine has been much more superior in La Liga with 20 goals from 24 matches. A series of crucial performances has seen Ronaldo catching up to Messi after a slow start in La Liga – the Real Madrid forward has struck 11 times now from 18 matches.

Ronaldo’s double against PSG in the first leg of the last 16 tie sees his side go to Paris as favourites. Messi has a lot of work ahead of him as Barca are set to face Chelsea, a side the Argentine has never scored against in the Champions League.
