Cristiano Ronaldo’s former Manchester United team mate Ryan Giggs said that the Portuguese forward’s decision to move to Juventus is due to his obsession with being better than his all-time rival Lionel Messi.

After days of speculations the Spanish club confirmed on their website that Superstar Ronaldo has left Real Madrid for Juventus on Tuesday. The transfer fee was not disclosed but Spanish media said Ronaldo had signed a four-year deal and had cost Juventus 105 million euros.

After the deal was made, Juventus chief executive Giuseppe Marotta revealed that it was Ronaldo who got in touch with Juventus as he said that it was Ronaldo who chose Juventus and approached the club for a possible move.

Meanwhile, speaking to ITV, Giggs said that Ronaldo’s obsession with beating Messi to be the best in the world is the main reason behind the 33-year old forward’s decision to leave Spain and make a move to Italy.

“Cristiano is obsessed with beating Messi,” Giggs told ITV.

“Now he has the argument of having won in England, Spain and with Portugal, so he wants to say ‘I’ll do it in Italy as well.’

“He can use it in his favour in the argument of who is better between them.”

Giggs acknowledged that it will not be easy for Ronaldo in Serie A, but also said it will look good when he reflects on his career in the future.”Having Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus on your CV is something special,” he said.

“But it will be a challenge for him.” Giggs concluded.
