BD to attend SWAFF meet

Bangladesh will attend the next meeting of the South West Asian Football Federation (SWAFF), a proposed football body outside the Asian Football Confederation's existing five zones, on May 1 in Saudi Arabia.

The decision was made at an emergency Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) executive committee meeting yesterday.

“I can't say at the moment whether Bangladesh will join the SWAFF but it may be clear during the next SWAFF meeting,” BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag said.

Shohag also said that after Bangladesh had attended the first SWAFF meeting on May 10, the AFC asked the BFF to inform them about what went on at that meeting, to which the BFF complied.

Meanwhile, AFC president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa met with the president of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) Adel Ezzat on Friday to discuss a range of football development and bilateral matters.

“We had an open and honest discussion on the formation of the SWAFF and I made it clear to Ezzat that the AFC had no objection to its creation as long as it remains a football body outside of the AFC's zonal structure,” said Salman, as quoted by the official AFC website.
