Barcelona have signed 23 year-old Portuguese right back Nelson Semedo from Benfica, the club announced.

Semedo has signed a deal with Barcelona until 2022, four years guaranteed with an optional fifth.

Spanish media said the fee was 30 million euros ($34.20 million) plus five million in add-ons.

Barcelona newspaper Sport revealed that Barcelona will pay 5,094,955 euros for every 50 games that Semedo plays for Barcelona until he renews his contract for the first time.

In his presentation at the Camp Nou Semedo said: "Barcelona was always my first option, I didn’t even think about any other offers.

"Everybody did great work to negotiate this deal. We knew it would be difficult to push the transfer through but I have been really happy with how things have progressed since I learned of Barça’s interest."

"I would like to thank Barca for this opportunity and the confidence they have shown in me. I am very proud to where this shirt and I will do everything I can for this club.

"This is a great club, I already knew that but I have realised even more so today. I like the city, too, and am looking forward to getting know it. I hope these are going to be good years for me and for Barça."

Barcelona will hope that Semedo can fill the void left by Brazilian full-back Dani Alves. Coach Luis Enrique had played midfielder Sergi Roberto as a make-shift full back after Alves left for Juventus.

Barcelona will tour the US next week where they are set to play Juventus, Manchester United and arch rivals Real Madrid in preseason friendly matches.
