'We were not surprised'

Rubel Hossain's return in the second ODI, after a short layoff, was spectacular. He took just two wickets, but showcased his brilliance in the delivery to Hashim Amla which uprooted the stumps. PHOTO: STAR

Bangladesh's comeback in the series may have surprised many, but to South Africa batsman Farhaan Behardien, Bangladesh's fightback wasn't surprising at all.

"We were not surprised at all. The way they played over the last month or so against Pakistan and India was not surprising at all. We were off the mark today. They started really well with the few wickets.

"I thought we played the first 10 overs really well. After that spell, they got in the game and we lost quick wickets," said Behardien at the post-match press conference.

While the batsman credited the hosts for a stupendous performance, he believed that his side's batters could have done better.

"I don't know if it was the pressure situation. I think there were soft dismissals. JP [Duminy] and the rest of us. The ball kind of stops on the wicket and comes in and got JP caught at short cover. With Hashim's [Amla] wicket, the ball went straight in and got him bowled.

"Faf's [Du Plessis] wicket kind of chipped in; it's not characteristic of his batting. He was our main batsman on the day having scored 40. If he had stayed another 10 overs, we might have posted 180 or even 200. Then the game would have been different," said Behardien.
