When he dabbed a Mitchell Santner delivery through point to move to 71 in the afternoon session of the second day of the first Test against New Zealand, Shakib Al Hasan reached 3,000 Test runs -- the third Bangladesh batsman after Habibul Bashar and Tamim Iqbal to cross the landmark.

Tamim Iqbal leads the way with 3,045 runs at an average of 40.53, while former captain and current selector Habibul Bashar is in second place with 3,026 at 30.87. Mushfiqur Rahim -- currently engaged in a century partnership with Shakib -- is fourth on the list with 2,812 runs at 32.69.

It was extra special for Shakib as his average tipped over the 40-mark at the exact point he reached 3,000. He will need to score at least 111 in the current innings to keep the average above 40.

UPDATE: Shakib has since notched a century, and currently sits second on Bangladesh's all-time Test run-scorers' list with 3,039 runs at an average of 40.52.
