Sanjit suspended

Bangladesh Under-19s off-spinner Sanjit Saha will need to go through a massive change in his bowling action as the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that the ICC Under-19 World Cup bowling action review panel analysis has found his bowling action to be illegal.

The bowler has been suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect, which is why the team management, who received the message on Saturday night, did not field him in the match against Scotland yesterday.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) sources informed that it has been deemed by the ICC panel that the spinner straightened his arm by more than 40 degrees for some deliveries. So massive changes to his action may be needed, but coach Mizanur Rahman said yesterday he will not be the same bowler if he changes his unusual action.

“In one sense indentifying the legality at such a young stage will help him to rectify it and continue with his game. But the problem is his unusual action is his strength, so we need to work with him carefully.  He played first-class cricket and got huge success because of his unusual action,” said Mizanur.

Sanjit was reported to the panel during Bangladesh's opening match against South Africa at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Wednesday.
