Bangladesh, with skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Mehedi Hasan Miraz at the crease, ended the fourth day of the first Test at 272-6 in pursuit of India's 513 as the Tigers need a mammoth 241 runs to win with four wickets in hand on the fifth and final day at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Saturday.

Skipper Shakib Al Hasan and all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz stayed unbeaten on 40 and nine respectively and will face a monumental task of saving the Test and potentially snatching an unlikely victory.

In the final session of the day, Tigers opener Zakir Hasan reached his maiden century on debut but fell without adding any more runs to his ton to Ravichandran Ashwin as nicked one on the inside edge to slip.

Left-arm spinner Axar Patel then did the damage as he picked castled Mushfiqur Rahim on 23 and deceived Nurul Hasan Sohan on flight to send him back on nought.
