Ottis Gibson linked to England job

A couple of former Proteas coaches, as well as the incumbent -- Ottis Gibson -- are reportedly in the running to succeed England coach Trevor Bayliss when he vacates his position at the end of the Ashes after a four-year stint with the world champions.

According to the BBC, the list of candidates includes Gibson, as well as two of his predecessors -- Gary Kirsten and Pakistan mentor Mickey Arthur.

Like Bayliss, Gibson is on the back end of his contract with Cricket South Africa, and it is unclear if he will continue.

The Barbadian has experience with England, having had two stints as their bowling coach.

Speaking about the England job in July, Gibson denied being approached.

Kirsten, on the other hand, has had limited involvement in international cricket since vacating his post as Proteas coach in 2013.

The 2011 World Cup winner led the Proteas to a series victory in England back in 2012, and is currently involved in various T20 leagues.

Arthur has also tasted some success in England but, like Kirsten, from the opposite dugout.

He took charge of the Proteas for five years between 2005 and 2010, and led them to a Test series victory against England in 2008, just before a historic 2-1 win against Australia away from home.

As Pakistan coach, Arthur has claimed the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy on British soil.
