Nayeem among wickets but Chanderpaul steals the show on final day

Bangladesh off-spinner Nayeem Hasan took all the wickets that fell on the day but West Indies batter Tagenarine Chanderpaul made a serious impression on the final day of the second four-day match between Bangladesh 'A' and West Indies 'A' at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia on Saturday.

The game ended in a draw as the two-match "Test" series, affected by rain, ended nil-nil. The two sides now turn their focus to the three one-dayers, the first of which begins on August 16.

Resuming the day on 43 for two, the home side rode on Chanderpaul's unbeaten 109 and Alick Athanaze's  82 to tally 277 for five, in reply to the visitors' 300 for nine declared.

The son of West Indies great Shivnarine Chanderpaul, the 26-year-old batted for almost seven hours and negotiated 337 balls in the process. His 120-run partnership with Athanaze for the fifth wicket, that too which ended as Chanderpaul was retired hurt late in the day, ensured there was no further trouble for the hosts after Nayeem removed overnight batter Joshua Da Silva and wicket-keeper Tevin Imlach. Eventually, the off-spinner, who picked a six-fer against Sri Lanka in May, had to be content with figures of three for 69.
