Launch accident leaves Shakib speechless

Shakib Al Hasan posted this message on his Facebook account on Monday night.

Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has expressed his shock and sadness over the launch capsize at the Buriganga River on Monday, which has so far claimed at least 32 lives and left many unaccounted for.

The accident, which took place barely 200 metres from the launch terminal on Monday morning, comes at a time when the country is ravaged by the coronavirus pandemic.

Shakib posted a message in Bengali on his Facebook account late on Monday night, praying for an end to such disasters and accidents.

"Every death brings sadness and despair. For the last four months people are dying every day from the coronavirus. Amidst all this, today a launch capsize at the Buriganga river has claimed 32 lives and left some unaccounted for. The air is heavy with the wailings of the near ones of those people. Truth be told, I can't find words to console myself," Shakib wrote.

Praying for the departed souls, the all-rounder hoped that things will get back to normal soon. "I hope to see a Bangladesh where there will be no such unwanted accidents. Every disasted, including coronavirus, will go away soon, In Sha Allah."
