The whole of Bangladesh was left reeling on October 29 when Test and T20I skipper Shakib Al Hasan was banned from all cricket for two years, with one year of that suspended, for failing to report corrupt approaches from a bookie. Shakib was banned on the eve of the tour of India, making an already bad year worse for the Tigers.

March 15, 2019 left Bangladesh’s national cricketers with some lasting scars as the Tigers narrowly escaped a mass shooting at one of the two mosques in Christchurch that came under attack from a terrorist. The third and final Test of the series between Bangladesh and New Zealand, which was scheduled for March 16, was called off.
